DISI - Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science

DISI Department

The Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Scienza dell'Informazione (DISI) represents the point of aggregation of a worldwide web of researchers and institutions.

The Department intends to provide a dynamic and qualified response to the ever-increasing demand of such competences from the productive tissue at the local, national and international level.

University departments historically are structures of remarkable importance for the increase of knowledge and for technological transfer. In this context, within the Italian academic system, the Department is quite an innovative reality.

The Department has several distinctive features:

  • it covers all the different areas of information technology (computer science, telecommunications, and electronics) and their applications. These disciplines above are studied individually but also with a strong focus on their integration,
  • it has a strong focus on interdisciplinarity and it has professors and students from almost all Faculties of the University of Trento (Science, Engineering, Economics, Sociology, Cognitive Science),
  • it aims at integrating the complementary experiences present in the various research areas in order to develop innovative methods and technologies, applications and advanced services.
  • It offers a wide array of educational paths, linked to Industry, Research Centers and Top Universities in all the world.
  • English is the official language.

Organization

We have no theory or basic research group as such. We do Basic Research, Applied Research, technology transfer (covering all the spectrum) in a few selected areas. In these areas we try to achieve critical mass.

The DISI research is organized in the following way:

  • It is organized in Research Programs (RP)
  • Research Programs try to be the synthesis of methodological know how and strategic applied research lines (more specific than research lines, more general than research projects)
  • RP's last three years, renewable

Further details on how department and research is organized are available here.
