Admissions

Applications for PostGraduate Research Grants may come out any time during the year. Usually a call for a large number of positions comes out in the period November-January in parallel with the applications for our graduate studies.

Selection criteria 2007

The candidates selection is done on the basis of the following:

  • Photocopy of the applicant's identity card or passport
  • English certificate - one of the following certificates is required:
    • IELTS certificate with score of at least 6.0
    • Paper-Based TOEFL certificate, with score of at least 550
    • Computer-Based TOEFL certificate, with score of at least 217
    • ALTE-UCLES certificate, with a score CAE/C or superior
    • A declaration issued by the University where the first degree has been obtained that English was the official language of studies and examinations.
      Candidates holding one of the following certificates will be considered for admission only in the absence of the certificates 1-5
    • Trinity College of London Certificate, with a score at least ISE II
    • WBT Certificate in English Stage 3
    • Pitman Certificate, with a score at least "ESOL Intermediate 1st Class Pass + SESOL Intermediate 1st Class Pass"
    • Applicants who are Nationals and/or first-degree-holders of Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, English-speaking Canada, The Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Republic of Ireland, Jamaica, Kiribati, Liberia, Mauritius, Micronesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom, United States of America, Zambia or Zimbabwe do not have to submit any language certificate.
  • If the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) test has been sat then pass certification
  • A copy of all first degree academic certificates
  • A translation of the degree certificates in Italian or English, only if the original documents are not written in either of these languages.
  • Copies of all transcripts or other academic records that give proof of the undergraduate studies including credits and grades achieved in each single subject
  • A translation of the transcripts and records in Italian or English in case the original documents are not written in either of these languages.
  • Curriculum Vitae in Italian or English

Analysis, design, and development of information systems for healthcare and welfare.

Technical skills requested :

  • skills in analysis, design, and development of information systems;
  • programming knowledge, especially Java and J2EE;
  • entrepreneurial attitude and motivation to develop an enterprise in the country of origin in the areas of e-healthcare and e-welfare.

Embedded Systems and Ambient Intelligence (VIGILIA project)

The length of the grant is 5 months extendable.
The grant amount is 800 Euro/month for a research activity carried out at the Department Laboratories and at Ars Logica.
The grant will start between February and March 2007.

Software Technologies (AMICUS/FRESCO projects)

The length of the grant is 5 months extendable.
The grant amount is 800 Euro/month for a research activity carried out at the Department Laboratories and at Ars Logica.

Security protocol verification

The length of the grant is 5 months extendable.

Security and accountability Engineering and Metrics

Programming platforms and communication runtimes for wireless sensor networks (2 grants)

The length of the grant is 5 months extendable.
The grant amount is 800 Euro/month for a research activity carried out at the Department Laboratories.
The grant will start between February and March 2007.
These 2 grants are offered by the ICT Department.

Syncronisation protocols on wireless sensor networks

The length of the grant is 5 months extendable.
The grant amount is 800 Euro/month for a research activity carried out at the Department Laboratories.
The grant will start between February and March 2007.
This grant is offered by the ICT Department.

Analysis, planning and development of informative systems applied to medical and welfare areas

The length of the grant is 12 months, from April 1 2007.
The grant amount is 800 Euro/month for a research activity carried out at the ICT Department-University of Trento (three months) and at G.P.I. S.r.l. (nine months).
These 2 offered grants (by GPI Srl) are reserved to Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian and Brazilian citizens.

Analysis of the knowledge creation and evaluation process

The research involves the analysis of the way scientific knowledge is generated, disseminated, and evaluated in today's publishing system, essentially based on peer review.
The goal of the work is of understanding and analyzing (also in a quantitative way) the limitations of the current evaluation and dissemination model and in studying novel methods for collaborative evaluation of scientific publications.
Skills: the ideal candidate will have knowledge in databases, java, and statistics. Knowledge of web search / page rank-like algorithms is desired.
The length of the grant is 5 months extendable.
